Pipe Relining on the Sapphire Coast

The Sapphire Coast has a particular set of conditions that age pipes faster than most. Established fig and camphor trees in older residential streets send roots into any available joint. Pre-1980 homes across Eden, Pambula, and Merimbula were built with clay-jointed pipes that were never designed to last forever. Coastal ground movement and shifting soils do the rest. Most of the pipe damage we find out here is entirely relineable; it just needs to be caught before it becomes a full collapse.

How Does Pipe Relining Work?

Will Pipe Relining work for you?

Take our quick test now and we'll give you an automatic recommendation based on your answers.

No-Dig Pipe Relining vs Excavation

Eden Plumbing runs a CCTV inspection before every relining quote. If the pipe is intact enough to reline, that is almost always the faster, cheaper, and less disruptive option for you. If it is beyond relining, we will let you know and give you a quote for excavation through our plumbing repairs team. We do both, so there is no reason to push you one way or the other.

If your CCTV inspection has confirmed pipe damage, the choice between relining and dig-and-replace comes down to the type of damage and what is above the pipe.

No-Dig Pipe Relining Traditional Excavation
Cost Lower. No driveway or garden reinstatement needed. Higher. Includes excavation, backfill and landscaping reinstatement.
Time on site 1 day for a single residential run. 2 to 5 days.
Disruption In and out through existing inspection points. No trenches. Trenching across the yard, driveway, or garden.
Pipe types PVC, vitrified clay, cast iron, concrete (50 to 225mm). All pipe types and diameters.
Right call when Cracks, root intrusion, joint leaks, slow drainage, or cosmetic constraints like driveways and gardens. Full pipe collapse, severe joint misalignment (more than 50% offset), and back-fall problems.

Why Use Pipe Relining?

Pipe relining strengthens your existing pipes without excavation, preventing future blockages, root intrusion, and leaks. Compared to traditional replacement methods, relining is:

✔️ Durable – Stronger than standard PVC pipes
✔️ Fast – Typically completed in 1-2 days with minimal disruption
✔️ Cost-effective – Saves on labour, landscaping, and restoration costs
✔️ Eco-friendly – Preserves gardens and reduces waste
✔️ Long-lasting – Most relined pipes come with a 25-year warranty
✔️ Improves plumbing efficiency – Enhances water flow and reduces backups

Pipe relining focuses on repairing damaged pipes within your property’s plumbing system. For properties with water pooling or drainage issues around foundations and outdoor areas, our subsoil drainage installations work alongside pipe repairs to manage excess water and prevent property damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is pipe relining not suitable?

Relining does not work for fully collapsed pipes, severe joint misalignment (more than 50% offset), or back-fall problems that cannot be fixed by the liner geometry. Our CCTV inspection picks up any of these before we quote. If your pipe needs excavation and replacement, we will say so and scope it properly.

How does pipe relining work?

Pipe relining uses a process called CIPP, or cured-in-place pipe lining. A resin-saturated liner goes into the damaged pipe through an existing access point and cures in place using hot water or UV light. It forms a new pipe inside the old one. No excavation required. We run a CCTV inspection first to confirm the pipe is suitable and to find exactly where the damage is.

How long does pipe relining last?

Most modern relined pipes carry a 25-year manufacturer’s warranty. A well-installed CIPP liner typically lasts 50 years or more. That is longer than a lot of the original clay and concrete pipes it replaces.

Do tree roots grow back after pipe relining?

No. Relining seals the joints that roots were getting into. Once the epoxy liner is cured, there are no gaps left for roots to exploit. Tree roots cannot get through a solid epoxy wall. Unlike jetting or root cutting, which clear roots but leave the joint open, relining closes it for good.

Can stormwater pipes be relined?

Yes. We reline sewer pipes and stormwater pipes. Stormwater relining is useful on the Sapphire Coast, where pipes often run under driveways, gardens, or near mature trees that would be very costly to remove.

What does pipe relining cost?

It depends on the pipe diameter, length, how easy the access is, and how many joints need sealing. For most residential relines on the Sapphire Coast, it works out cheaper than excavation once you factor in backfill and landscaping. Call us on 02 6424 5334 for a free inspection and quote.

What types of pipes can be relined?

PVC, vitrified clay, cast iron, and concrete pipes from 50 to 225mm. That covers most residential sewer and stormwater systems out here, including the older clay-jointed pipes in pre-1980 homes across Eden, Pambula, and Merimbula.
